Atlantic City’s First Full-Service Grocery Store Coming Soon

Atlantic City to get first full-service grocery store in over 20 years

After nearly two decades, Atlantic City is finally set to gain a full-service grocery store.

The Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA) will lease space at Renaissance Plaza, 1400 Atlantic Ave., to a new operator. This will revamp and expand the existing Sav A Lot. The project aims to deliver fresh produce and household goods to an area long considered a food desert.

CRDA’s initiative mirrors broader national efforts to improve access to healthy food in underserved communities where major grocery chains have been reluctant to invest. Similar debates are playing out across the country, including in New York City, where mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani has proposed opening city-owned grocery stores to combat food insecurity — a plan drawing both support and controversy.
